Girls With Power
March marked Women’s History Month, and the Girls With Power Charlotte Chapter made meaningful efforts to recognize and celebrate it. The 2026 theme, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” highlights the impact of women who are fostering systems that support both people and the planet. Alongside sharing content on their social media page, members of the Charlotte team shared words about what this month means to them.

Our Takes on Women’s History Month – GWP Charlotte
Quinn:
“Women’s History Month is generally known as a time to honor women who have paved the way for equality, and the incredible sacrifices they made to get the world to where it is today. What really stands out to me is that this month also encourages future female leaders, scientists, doctors, and many others to continue their efforts to make contributions to the world. This year’s theme is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future,” and this topic is more relevant now than ever. Today, there are many global challenges. Climate change, healthcare disparities, and economic insecurity are occurring worldwide. Women everywhere are stepping up to find solutions for these issues, and March is the month to celebrate them. Women’s History Month educates many on the important roles of women in society and the strength they have to take the initiative against these problems. Above all, their work will inspire the youth, empowering them and letting them know that they can make a difference. Efforts will be continued from one generation to the next, with women at the forefront.”
Aditi:
“To me, women play an incredibly important role in shaping a more sustainable future. I truly think that when women are allowed to lead and share their ideas, they often bring thoughtful, compassionate, and long-term perspectives that the world really needs right now. In my opinion, women tend to think not only about progress and innovation, but also about how our choices affect communities, families, and the environment for future generations. Supporting women in fields like science, environmental activism, business, and leadership can lead to more creative and balanced solutions to issues like climate change and protecting natural resources. To me, empowering women isn’t just about equality; it’s about giving the world the voices, ideas, and leadership it needs to build a healthier and more maintainable future for everyone.”
Connie:
“Women’s history month celebrates the accomplishments of many very talented women. It is extremely vital that we continue to recognise women’s roles in key topics, as it will truly lead to a better, brighter future. When I hear ‘women shaping a sustainable future’, I think of a few key figures. I think of Dr. Wangari Maathai, who started the Green Belt Movement in Kenya and helped plant over 51 million trees. There is also Christiana Figueres, who helped create the Paris Climate Agreement, and Vandana Shiva, a well-known author who works to protect plant diversity and food systems. Today, women scientists, engineers, and activists continue to create new solutions in clean energy, sustainable farming, and environmental protection. Despite facing many challenges getting into STEM fields and leadership positions, women’s insightful perspectives and collaboration prove essential to solving the current climate crisis. Together, women are building a greener future for our planet, and their inspiring work shows us that positive change is not only possible, it's already happening!”
